Narrow corridors are a hallmark of many houses and apartments. They can be very difficult to design, but there are several ways to make this space look more inviting. See how to make the dark corridor a fashionable showpiece of your home.
Bright colors are the basis!
The best way to brighten up a narrow corridor is to paint the walls with light paint, as it will reflect light very well. This will make a small space appear larger.
Bet on colors such as white, beige or light gray. Consider painting horizontal stripes on the wall to make the room appear wider, or vertical stripes to make the space appear taller.
Another way to make a tight corridor is to gradate the color of the paint on the opposite walls. If the corridor is long and narrow, it is worth using a darker shade of paint at the end of the corridor, then we will visually shorten the distance. However, if our hall is short, it can be expanded by using a lighter color.
Enlarge the corridor with mirrors
In a narrow corridor, not only the color matters! The use of additives will also be very important. The most important of them is a decorative mirror that perfectly reflects both natural and artificial light. Thanks to it, the room will be much brighter during the day, and at night it will reflect the glow of the lamps, making the space larger.
A full-height mirror is best suited, as it will automatically give the room a sense of height and draw the eye upwards. They will also fit perfectly into a small corridor, glazed doors installed in built-in wardrobes.
If there is a decorative chest of drawers in the hall, it is worth considering placing a wall frame mirror above it. A black frame mirror will work well on light walls - it will contrast with the rest of the decor. However, if we want something more stylish, a mirror in a thick golden frame will be great in the hallway.
Dare to add fancy lighting
An expressive lighting fixture will add a wow effect to any space, so it will also look very attractive in a narrow and dark corridor. There are plenty of beautiful chandeliers, wall sconces and LED lamps in various sizes and forms on the market. Industrial lamps - spotlights - which have been very fashionable lately, are perfect for the hallway. In a dark, empty corner, it is best to place a tall floor lamp, and if you do not want to take up space in the corridor, then it is worth directing the light from the spot lamp there.
Arrangement of a narrow corridor with a gallery wall
Why not make the passage through the hall more attractive to guests with wall art? Prints on canvas, posters, or maybe just family photos hung along a narrow corridor, will visually enlarge the space. Remember, however, that the graphics hung in the frames should be in brighter colors! How about frames with additional lighting? They will not only highlight your gallery, but also add more artificial light to a dark hall.
Bet on floor decorations
In small corridors, high-gloss ceramic tiles - for example imitating white marble - are the best choice. They perfectly reflect light, but they have one drawback - they are very difficult to clean. Another suggestion for expanding the corridor is to choose appropriate carpets or runners. Horizontal lined carpets will optically enlarge the hall, while a vertical lined carpet will significantly extend it.
Remember that in small, dark corridors, less is more. Don't forget about it! Plan the lighting well, choose the colors and do something special with this place.
